Expedia could continue the negotiations to buy the travel booking site Orbitz, because the Justice Department will not try to block the acquisition. There where complaints of hotels companies and other consumer advocate and lawmakers, raising concerns over the potential market power of the combined company, which would control roughly 75 percent of the domestic market for third-party online booking. The assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s antitrust said that “[they] took those concerns seriously and factored into our analysis all of the information provided,” but Orbitz was by comparison a small source of bookings for many hotel companies, and that the business of online travel was “evolving rapidly.”
